Building Back Better workshop series for community organisers

We’re living through an extraordinary time, and the impact of Covid-19 on individuals and communities is compounded by an already broken system. As we’re slowly coming out of the pandemic, the need for radical societal shifts is bigger than ever. To build back better in Scotland we need a strong network of communities and campaign groups, led by those most affected by the current crises. We need to organise in our neighbourhoods and work places and use our collective power to put pressure on local and national government to ensure a just and green recovery.

Tripod are excited to collaborate with Friends of the Earth Scotland and others on a series of free online workshops in campaigning and community organising skills.

To help you organise locally for change, we are co-running a series of six free workshops on campaigning and community organising skills, starting on the 16th of July. The trainings are open to grassroots groups and organisations fighting for justice in Scotland. We particularly welcome those working in community responses to the pandemic, key workers and those resisting racial injustice.

Whether you are new to the movement for social and climate justice, or looking to strengthen an existing group, these workshops are for you. You can find the overview of the topics on the flyer below and more details on the Eventbrite and Facebook events.

The workshops will take place on zoom. Places are free but limited so please register on Eventbrite. You can register to take part in individual workshops, or the entire series.

Just & Green Recovery Campaign

In June, together with community groups delivering frontline services, Unions protecting key workers to NGOs across many sectors, Tripod was one of 80 groups in Scotland who have written to the First Minister calling for a recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic that puts social and ecological justice before profit. This cross-cutting campaign is only just starting, and the series of workshops was developed to help strengthen it from the ground up.

Demands for building back better in Scotland include:

  • Providing good public services, publicly funded;
  • Providing adequate incomes for everyone, including payment of at least the real Living Wage for all public workers
  • Providing new funds to meet Scotland’s Fair Share of climate emissions cuts and restore nature;
  • Strengthening democracy, participation and human rights;
  • Supporting an international coronavirus and climate emergency response.

If you resonate with the demands, one of the things you can do is to add your name to the public petition.

We hope to welcome you at one or all of the workshops! If you have any questions, feel free to drop us a line at info @ tripodtraining.org

We are grateful to the Polden-Puckham Charitable Foundation and Patagonia for their support for this work.
