2024 has been a tricky year. Amongst the global context of political repression, genocide in Palestine, fascist gains in elections, displacement from wars & climate disasters alongside public white supremacist violence here in the UK, we’ve felt everything from rage to despair. Finding the balance between responding to the urgency of this moment & moving towards upstream purpose, and knowing if we’re having an impact is hard. We’ve been both buoyed by large scale mobilisations and, like many others, skeptical of how this translates into sustained action. Yet as ever, it feels clear that the power we build in our communities will be our rock among these storms, and we’re committed to focusing our attention on supporting organising that tackles the root causes of injustice & building capacity at the relational level for those who are in this work to stay in it with love, care, accountability & purpose.
There have been many changes for Tripod within the last months. We’ve been both saying farewell to members of our staff team & welcoming new ones, working on our new strategy, re-launching programmes of work & building our internal relationships. As the season turns we’re looking forward to turning inwards, integrating these changes and planting the seeds we’ve been germinating, to grow into next year.
Board & Staff Team:
This year we’ve said goodbye to two members of our staff, Monette & Zoe. Meanwhile Venus, one of our other Co-Directors, re-joined us from parental leave (with Ashri as our favourite new small person!), and in July we were joined by Joy, our new Programme Coordinator. We’re also excited to welcome back our Board member Elena from maternity leave.
Open Trainings & Client Work:
Joy & Venus have been working on relaunching our consultation & collaboration work with organisations. This September we facilitated a 3-day strategy retreat in the heart of Perthshire, alongside Nourish Scotland and a coalition of environmental, food & land justice organisations. This Autumn we’re also delivering some facilitation training for People & Planet and preparing for anti-racism training delivery across the cultural & arts sector next year.
Meanwhile we are back with our open facilitation trainings – Running Great Workshops & Running Great Meetings! We’re also developing some exciting new offerings & open programmes for the new year, around coaching, politicised somatics and anti-oppression. Our books are open for clients & collaborators looking for training, consultation, coaching & facilitation across our areas of expertise.
Strategic Programmes
After hosting a series of movement-building gatherings in the first half of the year, Aoife & Olga have been working hard on developing our programmes to take us into our new 5 -year strategy. We recently facilitated a land justice gathering in the Highlands with the Landworkers’ Alliance and a ‘movement infrastructure day’for collectives supporting activist groups in Scotland, whether legal support, catering, tents or first aid. We’re hosting some open trainings this Autumn in Glasgow around conflict & de-escalation skills. We’re keen to be in conversation with people interested in or already doing transformative work around conflict mediation & cross-issue organising or campaigning. Reach out to us if you’re interested!
