Transformative Conflict Skills: Navigating Hierarchies

Do you want to find ways for tensions and conflicts to strengthen the work you do with your comrades? Do you want to navigate conflicts with bosses, landlords and others in a way that is aligned with your values while building power and keeping you safe?

In this two-day training, we’ll explore approaches to conflict informed by the values of transformative justice, collective care and anti-oppression, with a focus on how to use these skills in different hierarchical and non-hierarchical contexts.

This training is geared towards folk who find themselves navigating lots of different types of conflict shaped by different structures, dynamics and types of power.

Transformative Conflict Skills: Entangled Communities

Do your communities keep playing out the same destructive patterns in conflict? Do you want to find ways to navigate conflicts complicated by friendships, romantic relationships and years of shared history?

In this three-day residential training, we’ll explore approaches to conflict informed by the values of transformative justice, collective care and anti-oppression, with a focus on how to use these skills in complex, messy communities.

This training is geared towards folk who often find themselves navigating conflicts in densely entangled communities. By ‘entangled’, we mean communities in which work, housing, organising, friendship, dating and other dynamics overlap across fluid and evolving groups of people.

About our training

Accessibility

We work with diverse groups in lots of different spaces, meaning that the format and accessibility of our events will vary. We are currently working on a shareable version of our baseline access commitments, which are met at every event we host. We also set aside a budget that allows us to meet specific access costs for participants, including travel and childcare.

For more information about the access provisions for a specific training or event, please visit the information page for that event.

Our training approach

Tripod’s trainings are inspired by direct education methodologies and based in our intersectional values. We bring a trauma-informed approach to conflict. Our work focuses on creating space for personal, collective and systemic transformation. We are committed to experiential education, which means that we’ll be learning by doing and that we’ll centre the experiences and knowledge already in the room. You’ll have plenty of opportunities for practice and feedback, and to address specific questions and challenges you’re bringing.

About Tripod

Tripod builds the power of social movements tackling the root causes of injustice in Scotland and beyond. As a collective of facilitators and educators, we connect people and develop skills to embody the liberated futures we’re fighting for. We seed active solidarity and strengthen strategic collaboration within and across movements. We offer training, meeting facilitation and conflict mediation to support groups to work in better alignment with their visions and values. We are a worker-led, not-for-profit coop, and have been embedded in movements since 2008.

For more info about our approaches and other work, have a look around our website. Our 2025-2030 strategy focuses on building intersectional movements, and increasing the capacity to better navigate conflict within and across groups.
